Object x position relative to a reference object (4x4): Cloud World – learn through play to sort by object and position.

Where is the balloon in relation to the cloud? And does the bird belong in the same square as the butterfly? In this interactive preschool activity, children discover through play how to organise images in a double-entry table. The activity consists of a 4x4 matrix in which children drag different images to the correct square based on two features: the type of object and its position relative to a cloud.

The rows distinguish between four different objects: a kite, a balloon, a bird and a butterfly. In the columns, children look at the position of the object relative to the cloud. To place each image correctly, they therefore need to recognise, combine and apply two properties at the same time. In this playful way, they become familiar with the principle of a double-entry table.

Children practise logical thinking, observation and classification skills by carefully looking at both the object and its spatial position each time. They learn to combine information from a row and a column and discover that every square in the matrix is determined by exactly two features. This encourages analytical thinking and provides a valuable foundation for later mathematical thinking and problem-solving.

This free app also places a strong emphasis on language development. Clear spoken support allows children to hear different words and spatial concepts while actively working with the images. Concepts related to place and position are therefore not only presented visually, but also reinforced through listening. By looking, listening, comparing and acting, children understand and remember new vocabulary more effectively.

The activity also develops spatial awareness. Children learn to look consciously at the relationship between an object and a reference object. They discover that an object can be in different positions relative to a cloud and learn to recognise these positions correctly. In this way, they practise skills that are important for spatial orientation, determining position and understanding concepts that describe where something is located.

Thanks to the simple drag-and-drop controls, children also practise fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and digital skills. Dragging each image to the correct square requires accuracy and concentration. The free app is suitable for use on tablets, computers, interactive whiteboards and other digital learning environments.

This educational matrix activity is ideal for preschool teachers, support teachers, parents and carers who are looking for a playful way to work on double-entry tables, logical thinking, classification, spatial concepts, position relative to a reference object, vocabulary development, listening skills and digital literacy.

Let children explore the cloud world through play and discover where kites, balloons, birds and butterflies are located. Step by step, they build a strong foundation for language, spatial awareness, logical thinking and working with a 4x4 matrix.

In the online logbook, parents and teachers can easily check afterwards which apps were played and what results were achieved.
